Another neighborhood meeting place laid out its welcome mat in downtown Gilbert recently.

Sushi Brokers is an expansive 3,564 square-foot, 200-seat restaurant that offers a huge selection of sushi—of course—as well as vegetarian fare and dishes comprising seafood, beef and chicken.

With established locations in Scottsdale and Phoenix, Sushi Brokers in Gilbert is no stranger in the restaurant business.

The menu is all-natural and the vegetarian options include Yakisoba and Wok Bowls. Top sushi choices include Toro, Citrus Yellowtail and Tuna and Salmon Poke, among other traditional and inventive takes.

LGE Design Build, which has constructed many other restaurants in the area, designed and built the attractive $1 million eatery within a multi-tenant building in the Heritage Marketplace.

The industrial design comes with an open concept—the ceiling is open, the walls are covered with Pennsylvania barn wood from 1870, there’s a stainless steel back bar and an expansive patio equipped with a community table.

David Sellers, president of LGE Design Build, said that the industrial style is a popular trend.

“A lot of them want as much volume as they can in their space. They have pretty good-looking ceilings and roof structures, so people are taking the advantage of keeping them nice and open,” he said.

Whiskey Row, which opened recently on the southeast corner of Gilbert Road and Vaughn Avenue, also has a similar open plan.

Other tenants in the Heritage Marketplace include restaurants Farm & Craft, Clever Koi, Grubstak and Even Stevens, mattress store Tuft and Needle and candy store Rocket Fizz.

The project is nearly complete and the complex has one other retail space available for lease, Sellers said. The top floor, comprising offices, has been rented by various companies.

The buildings’ architectural character was conceived from the Heritage District Design Guidelines that the town of Gilbert adopted in 2010. The buildings face Gilbert Road and create an urban streetscape with outdoor patio areas for dining and pocket park pedestrian links to the parking areas in the rear of the complex.

LGE Design Build is to develop two more properties on an acre plot of land located to the south of Heritage Marketplace, which will total about 50,000 square-feet of mixed-use space.

Sushi Brokers is at 350 N. Gilbert Road in the northwest corner of Gilbert Road and Vaughn Ave. Details at 480-515-5000 or sushibrokers.com.
